The Missouri S&T VE Team offers amateur radio licensing exams for free to students and community members in the Rolla area, through the Laurel VEC.
Exams are offered for all classes of licenses. Testing sessions are typically held twice per month and alternate between Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Exact dates, times, and locations are listed below. If you are unable to make any of the available dates, please contact the Testing Coordinator (see below), and we may be able to accommodate certain situations on a case-by-case basis.
Please read our overview of the licensing process. Any questions regarding the licensing process may be directed to the Testing Coordinator, listed at the bottom of this page.
***Technician class***: We plan to teach a class during the Fall of 2023 that will teach you everything you need to know to pass your Technician license exam. Please join our Discord server to receive the information for the class when we publish it.
IMPORTANT: The FCC requires that all candidates have an FRN before taking an exam (see below for instructions to register for one). You must register for an FRN prior to attending an exam session; we are unable to do this for you. If you arrive at an exam session without an FRN, we will ask that you use a nearby CLC to register for one. Otherwise, you will need to attend a later exam session once you have registered.
Upcoming VE Testing Sessions (view on the calendar):
All testing sessions will be held in 101 Emerson Hall unless otherwise indicated.
What to Bring: All applicants are required to bring the following:
Fees:
There is no cost for exams offered by the Missouri S&T VE Team. However, the FCC charges a $35 application fee. This fee applies only after you successfully pass an exam. Subsequent license upgrades are not subject to this fee.
